How old is reo speedwagon

Nowadays Reo Speedwagon remains a U. S concert circuit staple, mostly known as a crowd pleasing classic AOR genre rock band. Still fronted by longtime vocalist Cronin, currently the only original member in the 21st century touring lineup is keyboardist Neil Doughty.

The hired guns brought in since have had stints in band's like Ted Nugent and Wang Chung. Spurred on by numerous re-packagings of their back catalog, and successful newer live recordings, in they released " Find Your Own Way Home " the group's first new studio album in more than ten years.

Though it did not chart as an album, it produced two singles which appeared on Billboard's Adult Contemporary radio chart. REO Speedwagon continues to tour regularly, performing mostly their classic hits. They are popular on the fair and casino circuits, but still team with other acts to play larger venues. Cronin : The first album that I made with them was an album called R.

So that was the song that kind of got it going. DK : I know you play both guitar and piano onstage. Which instrument do you prefer to write songs on? I never really took any piano lessons…I just messed around with it and figured it out for myself. Basically, the only songs I can play on piano are those that I wrote he laughs. What was it that inspired you to write it?

Cronin : I actually wrote that song as I was traveling from Chicago to Los Angeles, when I rejoined the band; I left the band for a couple years. So when I came to Los Angeles I really wanted to feel the journey.

So I wanted to drive. I had just stopped at a truck stop in New Mexico—I had a brown paper bag that was sitting on the seat next to me, when the thoughts of the lyrics started coming to me. I was writing [the words] on this brown paper bag as I was rolling down the road. So I was quite literally and figuratively rolling with the changes laughs. When you were recording Hi Infidelity , did you and the band feel that this was your best album up to that point?

We did have a feeling that there was something special going on. The band—we were all kind of going through some chaos in our personal lives. The subjects that we were writing about were what was going on in our lives, since we were all in the same boat in a lot of ways. The songs for that album had a certain cohesive nature to them. So I think that really helped for the album, that it felt like all the songs belonged together.

Back in the day of the album, that was very important. It was one of those albums which was definitely top-heavy with songs that people, to this day…they come to our concerts and we play at least five or six songs from Hi Infidelity every night. When we play those songs, you can just feel the energy in the room light up. What inspired you to write this song? Cronin : That song, coincidentally, was number one 35 years ago from right now.

Doughty and Gratzer were constants, but the bass and guitar slots changed frequently.

Temporary guitarist Bill Fiorio later found fame under the name Duke Tumatoe. Gregg Philbin would become the bassist, and in , the band added a legitimate guitar hero in Gary Richrath.

Richrath had wanted to join the band and knew that he could take them to a new level with his artistry and songwriting. After signing with Epic Records in , the band cut their first album, R. Speedwagon they would later drop the periods. Speedwagon was released in October of and credited all five members Doughty, Gratzer, Richrath, Philbin, and Luttrell as the writers of all eight songs.

The record deal provided the band with some stability with one exception: the lead singer role. Luttrell departed in and was replaced for one album by Kevin Cronin.

Cronin left, paving the way for Michael Bryan Murphy; Murphy filled the frontman slot for three records. Convinced that their real drawing power came from the shows themselves, they persuaded Epic to deploy a strategy that had worked for KISS: making a live album to convey how REO really sounded when you saw them.
